How to cancel a subscription on iPhone

Quick answer: Open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, tap the subscription, then tap Cancel Subscription. Deleting the app does not cancel it, and it only works for subscriptions billed through Apple (your statement says APPLE.COM/BILL).

This works on every iPhone and iPad to cancel or unsubscribe from any App Store subscription and turn off auto-renewal. Below: both ways to reach the screen, what to do when there's no Cancel button, how to find subscriptions you forgot about, and how to get a refund from Apple.

Cancel via Settings (fastest)

  1. Open the Settings app and tap your name at the very top (your Apple Account).
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap the subscription you want to end.
  4. Tap Cancel Subscription (it's usually red, near the bottom).
  5. Confirm — you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.

Or cancel from the App Store app

  1. Open the App Store and tap your profile picture (top right).
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Choose the app, then tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

💡 No "Cancel Subscription" button?

  • It may already be cancelled — the screen will show the date it expires.
  • Or you weren't billed by Apple. Check the charge name on your bank statement and cancel on the service's website or in Google Play instead.

Find subscriptions you forgot about

The same Settings → your name → Subscriptions list shows every active subscription and recently expired ones — the quickest way to catch a free trial that's about to renew. To sweep cards and email too, run our free statement scanner or inbox scanner.

How to get a refund from Apple

Cancelling stops future charges but doesn't refund the current one. To ask for your money back, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, choose the charge and select "Request a refund". Apple decides case by case.

FAQ

There's no Cancel button — why?

Either the subscription is already cancelled (it will say when it expires), or you weren't billed through Apple. Check the same charge on your bank statement: if it doesn't say APPLE.COM/BILL, cancel on the service's website or in Google Play instead.

How do I find subscriptions I forgot about on my iPhone?

Settings → your name → Subscriptions shows every active and expired App Store subscription in one list, including free trials about to renew.

Does deleting the app cancel the subscription?

No. Deleting an app never stops billing — you must cancel in Settings → Subscriptions. The charge continues until you do.

Can I get a refund for an iPhone subscription?

Yes, request it at reportaproblem.apple.com (or Settings → your name → Media & Purchases → Purchase History). Apple reviews refunds case by case; cancelling first stops future charges.

I cancelled a free trial but still got charged — what now?

Trials must be cancelled at least 24 hours before they end. If you were charged anyway, request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
